General
Because, quite simply, you deserve to breathe better quality air. We spend so much time and energy trying to make sure we have filtered water and healthy food, but we often forget the other essential need for healthy living is the air in our homes.
Better Filtro was born out of a desire to make a real difference in home air quality. Our mission is simple: to provide the best home filter available, delivered conveniently to your doorstep.
Absolutely nothing! You may see either term used because they can be used interchangeably, but they refer to the exact same thing.
A MERV rating, which stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, is a standard measurement used to rate the effectiveness of air filters in capturing and trapping particles.
Filters sold by Better Filtro are MERV 8+.
While traditional filters focus on MERV ratings, the truth is no matter how high the rating, if air can bypass the cardboard frame, dust, particles & allergens are going to get through. The only way to ensure proper filtration is with a tight-fitting seal. That's why our frames have a patented Leak-Guard Seal.
A custom filter ensures a perfect fit and optimal air quality. Traditional cardboard filter frames are made to standard sizes for retail purposes, but the reality is they are not all made exactly the same, and your air conditioning intake may not be a standard size.
Yes, custom air filters are designed to address various air quality issues, including allergies, pet dander, smoke, and more. You can choose to add on additional features to your filter, like activated carbon or zeolite, to tackle your particular concerns.
Your filter replacement schedule can vary depending on household size and environmental conditions. A rule of thumb is to replace your air filter every 1 to 3 months. However, households with pets, smokers, or allergy sufferers may need to replace their filters as frequently as every 1 to 2 months to maintain optimal indoor air quality. It's essential to check your filter regularly for signs of dirt and debris buildup and replace it as needed to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Dirty or inefficient air filters can pose a significant health risk for allergy sufferers, contribute to poor indoor air quality, compromise your HVAC system performance, and increase energy consumption
The custom filters you’ll find at Better Filtro were designed by our partners at the Air Sponge Filter Co. They spent decades developing the patented design that will make the air you breathe better. The HealthSmart design includes the high-efficiency filter frame and the patented Leak-Guard seal to ensure the highest level of air filtration.
Air bypass is a common issue with most traditional cardboard air filters on the market. To ensure that 100% of your air is being filtered, our partners at the Air Sponge Filter Co. patented the Leak-Guard seal.
It’s a smart design with a simple solution: your air conditioner turns on, which creates a pressure difference, and this pressure difference creates an air-tight seal between your air filter and A/C unit — eliminating bypass. You can finally breathe knowing your air quality has never been better.
Ordering
To order your first custom filter, you’ll want to build a starter bundle from Better Filtro. You will enter your specific measurements and choose your desired add-ons.
The size listed on your cardboard air filter is typically a standard retail size, which is not the actual size of your filter. A/C filters are often a 1/2 inch smaller than these standard sizes listed on the side. To ensure you order the correct size filter, you can take measurements of your existing filter if it fits easily in your AC unit. If your current air filter does not fit correctly, we recommend taking measurements directly from your AC unit using a measuring tape. You will want to measure from metal edge to metal edge and then subtract 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch from the length and width.
Air filters sold by Better Filtro are custom-made to your exact HVAC system. They’re made from premium quality materials and have a patented design to filter air better and more efficiently. They are designed so you only need to purchase the frame once and replace the sponge, rather than replacing the entire filter every time. Investing in a custom filter can improve your HVAC system's lifetime, efficiency and the air you breathe every day.
Due to their custom nature, we cannot accept returns on custom filters and frames, so it's crucial to double-check your measurements before ordering.
We understand that sometimes mistakes happen. So, if your filter does not fit properly we will arrange to make you a new one in the correct size and ship it out to you. However, we must charge shipping and handling. Contact us at the email address below if this happens.
If for whatever reason, you’re unhappy with your filter, you can also reach out to Better Filtro’s customer support (support@betterfiltro.com) to troubleshoot & resolve the issue, or request a refund if you are within 30 days of your original delivery date.
Activated carbon filters are a popular method for eliminating gases from the air. They utilize millions of small pores on the filter's surface to trap and remove gases and odors. These filters are ideal for removing common household odors such as cooking smells, cigarette smoke, and more.
Zeolite filters are composed of a micro-porous natural mineral that has been fused with polyester. They are particularly effective in removing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and gases, and excel at eliminating odors such as pet urine and ammonia.
Yes. We guarantee our a/c filters and furnace filters for 10 years from the date of purchase.
Installation & Maintenance
The sponge material may have writing or colored lines across one side of the filter. This will be facing you when you place the material into the frame.
The aluminum filter frame is reusable, and you will continue to use this for the life of your AC unit. The filter sponge that is used with the frame is disposable and should be replaced every 30-60 days, depending on the quality of your air and the amount you use your A/C.
No, the filter sponge inserts can not be washed. This could cause mold and bacteria to grow. The filter material is meant to be recycled or thrown away and replaced every 30-60 days. You can maintain your aluminum frame with a damp cloth which will not damage the rubber gasket on the frame.
You can use any household cleaner (like Windex or a Clorox wipe) to clean the screen. If using a spray like Windex, just spray it on, let it sit for 5 minutes, and rinse it off. If using a Clorox wipe, simply wipe it down. You can also lightly brush the screen, if necessary.
